Yupun to compete today- Nimali out from heat
South Asia’s fastest man and record holder Yupun Abeykoon will compete in the 100m heats today at the Tokyo Olympic Games. On the second day of the athletics schedule, he will compete at 4.15 p.m. Sri Lanka time. He will have a daunting task of qualifying among the best 24 to get into the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, 800m runner Nimali Liyanarachchi had a disappointing outing in the 800m, as she finished last in her heat.
With a personal best of 2 minutes 2.58 seconds, Nimali did not have a good lead up for the Olympics, as her wild card was received at the last minute. Despite that, the 32-year-old finished the event in 2 minutes 10.23 seconds, and finished 43rd of 45 athletes who ran in six heats.
