Sri Lanka to host South Asian Cross Country C’ship

Sri Lanka will host the second South Asian Cross Country Championship on 15 February in Nuwara Eliya. Athletics Association will conduct the championship with the Ministry of Sports sponsoring it. The first South Asian Cross Country Championship was held in Bhutan in 2018 where Sri Lanka won four medals.

Nilani Rathnayaka and Lionel Samarajeewa won individual bronze medals, while the Women’s team won the gold medal and the Men’s team the silver.

Sri Lanka conducts its annual Cross Country Championship on the Nuwara Eliya Golf Course, which is considered of international standard. Hence, converting that into a South Asian event had been under discussion for some time now.
