Yupun stuns with 10.31 seconds ,Much more left in the tank
Italian based sprinter Yupun Priyadarshana Abeykoon clocked his personal best of 10.31 seconds to win the 100m beating Shehan Ambepitiya to second place. Yupun who returned to the country just for the trials will be off to Italy for his training again next Friday.
Yupun who is 6 foot 2 inches tall (187 cm ) used his height perfectly in the later part of the race to run away from the rest and it seems he could have done much better if there was either Vinoj Suranjaya de Silva or Himsha Eashan to challenge him .
SAG Gold medalist Himasha Eashan who was beaten by Yupun last year did not competed yesterday as he is suffering from a minor injury and is expected to be back within a few weeks.
Yupun will be now joined with fastest man of SL this year Vinoj Suranjaya de Silva clocked (10.27 seconds) ,Himasha Eashan with personal best of 10.26 seconds to make up the relay team where former SAG gold medalist Shehan Ambepitiya (10.56 seconds) is the fourth place to make up the relay team but the final combination will be decided after National trials where likes of Ambepitiya, Mohommad Ashroff, DK Wijerathne , Sumesh Wickramasinghe will fight to make in to the relay team .
Yupun was not a part of commonwealth Games SL relay team where Sri Lanka clocked 39.08 seconds and finished 6th where addition of Yupun indicates much faster 4x100m relay team for Sri Lanka in the Asian Games.
