American athletes yesterday gave thumbs up to the innovative cooling system at the Khalifa International Stadium.

The US squad, which arrived in Doha on Tuesday, seemed ‘impressed’ with the state-of—the-art technology at the iconic venue, which will also matches of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 will be the third major athletics event, which the Khalifa International Stadium will host after the innovative cooling system was installed.

The system was also used during the Asian Athletics Championships and Doha Diamond League earlier this year.

“We are very comfortable and I am very impressed,” said US steeplechase star Emma Coburn yesterday.

“My first experience is that when we walked at the stadium from the car, we were super sweaty but after reaching the venue it felt very good,” she said.

“We are looking forward to more good experience in the championships after that we will get the right idea,” she added.

Women’s 400m hurdles world record holder Dalilah Muhammad said she toured Doha before and was impressed with the innovative technology.

“I loved the cooling system on my first visit. As a sprinter, the temperature doesn’t affects me much but I am actually happy that my parents will sit in the AC,” she smiled.

Rio gold medalist Ryan Crouser also echoed her team-mates’ views.

“The conditions are very good and we are happy,” Crouser said.

Star 400m hurdler Rai Benjamin said yesterday: “They did a very good job with the temperatures and it’s very comfortable to be competing. It’s impressive.”
