Jamaican sprint stars play musical chairs with National Junior Record
Briana Williams continues to be the fastest junior in Jamaica after she clocked 11.02 seconds today at the 2019 Great Southwest Track and Field Classic.
Williams was, for the second time in a week, lowering a Kiara Grant’s national junior record.
Last week, Williams ran 11.10 seconds to break Grant’s 11.12, set a few weeks before that.
On Saturday, Grant, for a few minutes, was the quickest junior after finishing sixth at the NCAA Division Championships.
Grant, a Sophomore at Norfolk State University, clocked 11.04 in what was a very fast race, won by 19-year-old Sh’Carri Richardson of LSU, who hit the tape in 10.75 seconds.
Second was North Carolina’s Kayla White in 10.95 and USC’s Twanisha Terry was third in 10.98.
It was not until fourth place that Texas’ Teahna Daniels failed to break 11 seconds, finishing dead on the barrier.
Kiara Parker of Arkansas with 11.02 finished just ahead of Grant, while the field was rounded out by USC’s Anglerne Annelus, 11.12, and Florida State’s Ka’Tia Seymour, 11.12.
