Nadeesha clocks seasonal best to win Bronze as SL finish with three medals at Asian GP-2nd Leg

Quarter miler Nadeesha Ramanayaka clocked a seasonal best 53.18 seconds to win the Bronze medal as Sri Lanka finished with three medals during the second leg of the Asian Grand Prix held at Chongqing, China on Friday.

Nadeesha, the Asian Championship finalist, with a personal best of 53.03 seconds, could not find her last year’s form during the early season in 2019; but she returned to a seasonal best during the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix on Tuesday clocking 53.24 seconds and then went on to win the Bronze medal while further improving her timing to 53.18 seconds yesterday.

Middle distance runner Nimali Liyanarachchi, who won a Silver medal in the first leg last Tuesday, won another Silver medal in the women’s 800m clocking 2 minutes 04.17 seconds: exactly a second slower than her Tuesday time of 2:03.17 in the first leg. The Bronze medalist from the first edition Gayanthika Abeyrathne finished in fifth place.

The javelin throw Bronze medalist from the first leg, Sumedha Ranasinghe won another Bronze medal yesterday: even though his distance of 75.58m fell short of his 76.92m throw on Tuesday.

The Sri Lanka team finished with a total of three Silver medals and four Bronze medals during both legs of the Asian Grand Prix. They left China yesterday immediately after competing to return to Sri Lanka.

Results

Silver Medal – Nimali Liyanarachchi (800M women -2:04.17 )

Bronze Medal – Nadeesha Ramanayaka (400M women -53.18 sec  )

Bronze medal – Sumedha Ranasinghe (Javelin Throw Men-75.58 M)
