Elaine Thompson

Thompson had a busy season so far as she competed in Shanghai Diamond league, Stockholm Diamond league and World Challenge in Nanjing all within May while she took a trip back to Jamaica after Nanjing to compete in Jamaica All-comers meet before returning to Stockholm three days later. She won the Nanjing World challenge 200m with a time of 22.40 second and lowered it to 22.66 seconds in Stockholm to place second. In 100M she had a disastrous race in Shanghai placing third with modest 11.14 seconds where the reigning Olympic Champion will be eager to get back into sub 11 seconds for the season. Her seasonal best for 100m is 11.09 seconds which she ran little over a week ago in Jamaica.

Dina Asher Smith

Dina Asher-Smith meanwhile was well rested between events as she only competed in Doha diamond league on May 30 and then Stockholm diamond league on May 30, winning both events with world lead timing and beating both world and Olympic champions. She is presently ranked number 02 in the world from 100m and Rome will be her 100m seasonal debut. Judging by the form, Asher-Smith is the hot favorite to win the event on Thursday night.

Aleia Hobbs

Aleia Hobbs had an amazing debut to the Diamond league as she beat the reigning Olympic Champion Elaine Thompson to win the 100m at Shanghai with the time of  11.03 seconds. Hobbs had a successful season so far as she anchored USA Women’s 4x100m to the Gold medal at World relays in Yokohama before winning the Diamond league and she is well rested since without any major competition and will be eyeing to keep her winning streak going in Rome too. The 23-year-old US Champion clocked 10.85 seconds personal best last year with the perfect wind of +2.0 and will be eyeing to lower it down this year.

Marie-Josee Ta Lou

The experienced campaigner from Ivory Coast had her best season in professional life in 2017, winning  Silver medals in both 100m and 200M at the World Championship in London.  The 30-year-old with a personal best of 10.85 seconds for the 100M is ranked World’s number one in 100m and is yet to compete at a major 100m event for this year.
