Aruna , Pasindu , Dilshi and Amasha remains unbeaten

Sri Lanka finished the day unbeaten as all four athletes won their heats easily increasing the gold medal hope in the Asian Junior athletics championship which got underway at Nagaragwa stadium in in Gifu, Japan .

Quatermiler from A.Rathnayaka CC Walala, Dilshi Kumarasinghe started the competition for Sri Lanka and she had no problem of winning her heat with ease. The South Asian Junior Gold medalist who was competed in the second heat of the 400m girls event clocked 54.82 seconds running with no body close by in the last 100m .

Dilshi will compete in the 400m finals which will be worked off at 12 noon tomorrow . Her main opposition will be Indian Olympian Jisna Mathew.

Young sprinter Amasha de Silva hailing from Swarnamali GC Kandy lighted up for rare medal from 100m as she clocked personal best 11.80 seconds winning the 100m heat and advancing to the finals as the fastest runner.  It’s been 24 years since Sri Lankan female athlete won a 100m medal in Asian Junior where Damayanthi Darsha and Susanthika Jayasinghe sealed gold and silver medal in 1994. Amasha will now compete in the finals at 1.55pm SL time trying to match performance of Sri Lankan from 1994.

Two men’s 400m ,Aruna Darshana and Pasindu Kodikara lighted up hopes for both Gold and Silver medal for Sri Lanka  winning the heat one and three. Pasindu the South Asian 400m hurdle gold and 400m silver medalist hailing from Maliyadeva College Kurunegala clocked relaxed 47.94 seconds to win the heat one . Aruna the triple gold medalist (200m,400,4x400m) of South Asian Juniors hailing from Weerakeppetipola NS Akuramboda then jogs to win the third heat yet he managed a sub 47 seconds performance ( 46.89 seconds) . Pair will now compete in the finals which will worked off at 12.10pm SL time .
