AASL to take stern action against Himasha

South Asian record holder in the 100m, Himasha Eashan has withdrawn from the relay team citing injury concerns at the ‘Road to Asian Games 2018’ invitational test event which is ongoing at Jakarta.

As per AASL President Gen. Palitha Fernando, Eashan had not turned up for baton change practice recently, while neither he nor his coach Chaminda Perera had reported any injury concern before the tour.
Fernando further said he is going to conduct an inquiry into the incident and also report him to the Minister recommending stern action be taken.
Eashan was set to run in the 100m as well as 4x100m relay event. AASL had high hopes about the race as the 4x100m relay team has already been selected for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games and was expecting a good performance to gear up for the Commonwealth Games.
The 4x100m relay team finished fourth at the last two Asian Championships and AASL is confident the 4x100m relay team has a good opportunity for a podium finish, especially with Eashan and Vinoj Suranjaya de Silva regularly clocking fast times in recent times.
AASL had scheduled compulsory baton change practice for relay runners and Sports Ministry is paying them a monthly allowance as an incentive. This is not the first time an athlete has not taken part or performed miserably in an event during a tour citing an injury, as SL athletes tend to hide injuries ahead of tours.
