Team of 24 athletes took wing to Indonesia on Thursday night (8th) to compete in the test event ahead of Asian Games, “Road to 18th Asian Games 2018”.
Team includes the entire Elite National poolists comprising the recent medallists at the Asian Indoor Athletic Championship except for athletes who are training outside Sri Lanka.
Around 1000 participants from several countries will compete in the eight sports test events which AASL saw as an opportunity for the National athletes to have the much needed competition in a proper track ahead of the Asian and Commonwealth Games.
Eighteen teams have confirmed participation in the event, which will go on till 15 February in the capital Jakarta.
The events include weightlifting, athletics, 5×5 basketball, volleyball, archery, pencak silat (a traditional Indonesian martial art),taekwondo and boxing.
Indonesia is to stage the Asian Games in August this year, will include a total of 40 sports for a total of 462 events. Over 11,000 athletes and officials from 45 nations and regions will take part in the Games.
