Hiruni Wins Eugene Marathon : Qualified To World Championship

Marathoner Hiruni Wijayaratne clocked 2 hours 43 minutes and 31 seconds in the Eugene Marathon when she crossed the finish line as first female and 11th overall in the 2017 edition of the Marathon held yesterday.

Doing so, Hiruni Achieved the IAAF World Championship qualified time in Marathon which is 2:45.00 and is the first and only female athlete to qualify for the world championship this year from Sri Lanka so far. Hiruni lives in USA  moved their after first nine years of her life spending in Sri Lankan and was running Marathon for years yet she did not get an opportunity to represent Sri Lanka in any major event yet.

 

Hiruni is now the second fastest female marathoner Sri Lanka ever produced behind Olympian Niluka Rajaseakra who had clocked 2:40.7 seconds .
