Pradeep Somasiri Breaks Asian Record to Win Bronze at World Para Athletics Championship

Pradeep Somasiri set a new Asian record to secure Sri Lanka’s second medal at the World Para Athletics Championship held in New Delhi on Saturday (4).

Competing in the Men’s 1500m (T46) event, Somasiri clocked 3:53.77 to claim the bronze medal. The gold was won by independent para athlete Aleksandr Iaremchuk with a time of 3:53.26, while Antoine Praud of France took silver in 3:53.62.

Somasiri previously won gold in the same event at the Asian Para Games three years ago. Sri Lanka’s first medal of the 2025 World Para Athletics championship came from Nuwan Indika Gamage, who earned bronze in the T44 Long Jump.
