Cooray and Hiruni to compete in World Championship Marathon tomorrow (6th)

Sri Lankan Marathoners Anuradha Indrajith Cooray and Hiruni Wijayarathne will be in action in the IAAF World Championship men and women Marathon events at London tomorrow(6th).

Cooray will compete in the men’s marathon which is set to start at 3.25pm SL time while Hiruni will compete at 6.30pm SL time in women’s Marathon. This will be the third World Championship Marathon for Cooray who had represented Sri Lanka in 2005 and 2015 editions while for Hiruni, this will be her maiden World Championship Marathon as well as her debut for Sri Lanka as an athlete representing the country for the first time.

“It’s my first time and team was very kind to me. My goal is to improve my Personal best time and run as close as to National record  possible. “said Hiruni before the race from London .

Hiruni who was eyeing to represent Sri Lanka even before last IAAF World Championship in 2015 could not make it until this year where she won the Eugene Marathon with a time of 2 hours 43 minutes and 31 seconds to qualify for the World Championship earlier this year.

Cooray meanwhile qualified for the event from his Olympic run in Rio with time of 2:17.06 seconds but did not ran a full marathon since then .
