Veteran Sports journalist Sunil Abeywardane passes away

Veteran sports journalist Sunil Abeywardane (69) passed away yesterday after a brief illness.
Abeywardane, who had a 30-year career in the field of Media, was working for the Rangiri FM and ITN as a freelance Journalist at the time of his death. He worked as a journalist for the Lake House from 1986 to 2005 and later he joined Lakbima in 2005 and worked until 2014.
Multi talented person who worked for Newspapers, Television and Radio as a media personality covered most international events.
He was an old boy of Vidyaloka Vidyalaya Kerawalapitiya, Wattala started his first job at Sri Lanka Transport Board. and was an active social worker.
He harnessed his sports knowledge to become one of the country’s leading sports journalists and columnists. In addition to local and international cricket, he covered several other sports specialized in Olympic Sports including volleyball, motor sport,Cycling  and athletics.
Remains lay at his residence at 200/4 Matagoda Road Kerawalapitiya Wattala. Funeral will take place on Thursday at Hendala Cemetery.
