Vinoj , Tharusha shines with wins in Jakarta

Young sprinter Vinoj Suranjaya de Silva and 20 years old quatermiler Tharusha Dhananjaya excelled during the day as they won their respective events 100m and 400m at the Road to Asian Games 2018’ test event continued at Jakarta today .

De Silva , Fastest Sri  Lankan this year clocked personal best of 10.28 seconds in the heats to advance finals and clocked 10.30 seconds in the finals running against the wind of -0.4m/s. de Silva beat Muhammad Zohri of Indonesia and Dasan Vadivelu of India to win the event .

Earlier  Dhananjaya clocked his personal best (46.83 seconds) as he won the 400m ahead of National champion Dilip Ruwan. Competing from the lane 3 , Dhananjaya beat Jithu Baby (46.88 sec)  of India while National Champion Dilip Ruwa who was competing from the lane 8  finished third with 46.97 seconds .  Kalinga Kumarage finished fifth with 47.67 sec .

In the Javelin throw new champion Samapth Ranasinghe was beaten by Indian Davinder singh . been 80 plus throwers , none of them could show their best last night where Singh won the event with 75.87 throw while Sampath finished second with 75.39m. Sampath was leading the competition till the last round where Singh threw the winning distance with his sixth and final attempt.

Quarter Miler Upamalika Rathnakumari could not impress as she finished third in the 400m with time of 54.89 seconds behind two Indian athletes, Sonia Baishya (53.53 sec)  and Sharee Ananda (54.34 sec) .  Upamalika clocked almost similar time  indoors when she won the bronze medal at Asian Indoor Athletics Championship earlier this month which shows that she is capable of running faster outdoors yet she could not perform as expected in Jakarta.
