ශ්‍රී ලංකා මලලක්‍රීඩා පෙර දැන්වූ පරිදි ඉහත වයස් සීමාවන්හි තරඟ ඇවිදීමේ ඉසව් ජූලි මස දියගමදී පැවැත්වීමට කටයුතු සංවිධානය කර ඇත.
ඒ අනුව පහත තරඟ ඉසව් 2024 ජූලි මස 13 සහ 14 දිනයන්හි ජාතික කණිෂ්ඨ මලලක්‍රීඩා ශූරතාවයට සමගාමීව පැවැත්වීමට නියමිත වේ.
තරඟ අයදුම්පත් ජූනි මස 14 දින සිට නිකුත් කෙරෙන අතර ජූනි 30 දින අයදුම්පත් භාරගැනීමේ අවසන් දිනය වේ. අයදුම්පත් ගාස්තුව රු. 1000/= (එක් දහසක්) වේ.

Junior Race Walk Competitions 2024
(Age under 23 / 20 / 18 and 16)

As previously announced, Sri Lanka Athletics has arranged to hold the Race walking events in the above age groups at Diyagama in July.
Accordingly, the following events are scheduled to be held concurrently with the Junior National Athletics Championship on 13th and 14th July 2024.
Applications will be issued from 14th June and closing date is 30th June. The application fee is Rs. 1000/= (one thousand).

St. Peter’s Colombo and Walala A. Rathnakyake Central College Clinch Overall Titles

The 88th Sir John Tarbat Senior Schools Athletics Championships concluded on a high note with St. Peter’s Colombo winning the Overall championship for the Boys with 206 points and Walala A. Rathnakyake Central College with 240 points winning the Girls title.

1st and 2nd Runner Up for the Girls were Gateway International School, Rajagiriya and Rathnapura Sumana Balika Vidyalaya respectively while Maris Stella College, Negombo and Royal College, Colombo earned the 1st and 2nd Runner Up places for the Boys.

The Championship Athlete of the Year – Boys was S. T. Amarasinghe of Royal College, Colombo. He won the High Jump-Under 18 with a new meet record 2.10meters. The Championship Athlete of the Year – Girls was Parami Wasanthi of Kuliyapitiya Central College who created new meet records for both the 3000metres and for the 2000metres Steeple Chase.

During the three-day competition held at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo a total of 23 meet records were broken. Over 4,500 athletes from 600 schools vied for honours during this prestigious competition.

Ritzbury, Sri Lanka’s No. 1 chocolate of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL) sponsored the meet for the 6th consecutive year.

The Golden boy, Aruna Darshana had to bow out from the individual 400m of the world junior championship as he finished fifth in the semi-finals at Finland on Thursday (12th).

Competing from the lane six of the toughest semi-final out of three, Aruna clocked 46.8, which is much below than his Asian Junior winning time of 45.79 or south Asian junior winning time of 46.55 seconds . It was visible that cold weather in Finland had affected his run but overall Aruna had a disappointing outing on Thursday night.

Aruna who trains under Asanka Rajakaruna , had to compete in the most difficult semi-finals of 400m which saw Jamaican National Champion, nick named ‘Next Bolt’ Christoper Taylor with 44.88 pb ,US U-20 number 1 Howard Fields with pb of 45.50 and Canadian sub 46 runner Khamal Stewart-baynes with pb of 45.98 seconds competing .Total of four runner with sub 46 seconds performance competed to get two automatic qualification spot for the finals in that semifinals.

The SL team only arrived in Finland just a day prior to the competition where top athletes such as Indian 400m Gold medalist Hima Das was training in Europe for a month with several competition under their belt in Europe leading up for the world juniors.

Earlier sprinter Amasha de Silva who came to the semi-finals of 100m finished 8th with 11.86 seconds and bow out from the championship. Amasha hailing from Swarnamali GC Kandy trained under Sanjeewa Weerakkody won two silver medal from 100m and 200m and bronze in 4x400m relay at Asian Junior championship in Japan but opt to run only 100m at World Juniors .

After record breaking performance in Japan, Aruna Darshana started his bid to win the World Junior title on Wednesday (11th) at Finland ,where he won the 400m heat.
The golden boy hailing from Kanthale who reminisces early days of Sugath Thilakaratne when he shattered the Asian Junior record to win the 400m Gold in Japan with a 45.79 seconds timing, the best by any Sri Lankan since 2006.

His time was ranked 4th on paper. But, the time of 45.79 which is considered in comparison, wasn’t Aruna’s best as he was very much relaxed when he clocked that time and won the Asian Juniors and was visible that he had much energy left in the tank. Also, the silver at the last World Junior Championship was won in a time of 46.21 seconds which lit up further hopes about a medal for Aruna at the World Juniors but unfortunately it did not come true in Finland Athlete hailing from Weerakeppetipola NS ,Akuramboda in the Matale District along with his coach Asanka Rajakaruna is eyeing to make history by winning Sri Lanka’s first ever world junior medal yet their journey cut short in semis .But SL will be still hoping for a medal from the boys 4x400m relay which too has good chance of a podium finish .

For a nation accustomed to dominating the sprints over the past decade, a tally of four medals from the IAAF World Championships in London caused some recrimination and soul searching in the Jamaican ranks last summer.

But it would not be an exaggeration to describe 18-year-old Christopher Taylor as a superstar in the making. Taylor has been on the radar for a few seasons – and expectations have been high in Jamaica – and he has been breaking records across the board this season. The championship record of 44.66 isn’t too far away either.

Taylor’s progression hasn’t followed a linear pattern but he broke his three-year-old 400m PB of 45.27 with 44.88 to win the senior title at the Jamaican Championships, taking the national U20 record with it. He also equalled Yohan Blake’s national U20 100m record of 10.11 in his final race before travelling out to Tampere.

While Usain Bolt’s national U20 200m record of 19.93 is almost certainly safe, Taylor also leads the world U20 lists with 20.35. The Calabar High School student upset a field including LaShawn Merritt and Anaso Jobodwana over the same distance to win at the Kingston Invitational.

A Jamaican one-two is by no means out of the question with Jamaican athletes filling four of the top five places on the world U20 lists. Nigeria’s Emmanuel Bamidele is third with 45.28 but he isn’t competing in Tampere.

The US challenge is led by national U20 champion Howard Fields – also known as Trey – who ran a 45.50 PB to win the title from Umajesty Williams’ 45.96.

Other medal contenders include Asian U20 champion Aruna Dharshana from Sri Lanka, Japan’s Yoshinobu Imoto and Jonathan Sacoor, who was part of Belgium’s bronze medal-winning team at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

In total, 12 athletes on the entry list have season’s bests of 46 seconds and faster.

ෆින්ලන්තයේ දී ලබන මස 10 වැනි දා සිට පැවැත්වෙන ලෝක ශූරතා කණිෂ්ඨ මලල ක්‍රීඩා තරගාවලිය සඳහා සහභාගීවන කණ්ඩායම නිළ වශයෙන් ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කර තිබේ.

ඊට ක්‍රීඩකයන් පස්දෙනෙකු හා ක්‍රීඩිකාවන් හය දෙනෙකු ඇතුළත් වන අතර, පුහුණුකරුවන් ද සිව් දෙනෙකු ඇතුළත් ව සිටියි.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා කණ්ඩායමේ පුහුණුකරුවන් ලෙස  අසංක රාජකරුණා, ජනිත් ජයසිංහ, කේ. ඩී. බණ්ඩාර හා එස්. පී. ද සිල්වා යන මහත්වරුන් කටයුතු කරයි. මින් පුහුණුකරුවන් තිදෙනෙකුම මීටර් 400 බාලක සහාය කණ්ඩායමේ ක්‍රීඩකයන්ගේ පුහුණුකරුවන් වීම හේතුවෙන්, බාලිකා කණ්ඩායමට යම් අසාධාරණයක් සිදුව තිබේ. ඩිල්ෂි කුමාරසිංහ හා අමාෂා සිල්වා තනි ඉසව්වකට හා සහාය දිවීමේ 400 ඉසව්වට සහභාගී වුවත් ඔවුන්ගේ පුහුණුකරුවන්ට මේවනතෙක් මෙම කණ්ඩායමට නම් නොකිරීමද විශේෂත්වයක් වේ.

ජී එල් එස් පෙරේරා මහතා මෙම කණ්ඩායම භාරව කලමණාකරු ලෙස කටයුතු කරන අතර, සුනේත්‍ර කරුණානායක මහත්මිය බාලිකාවන් භාර නිළධාරිනිය ලෙස කටුයුතු කරනු ඇත.
