Bimal Wijayasinghe Faction Secures Landslide Victory at Sri Lanka Athletics AGM

The Sri Lanka Athletics Annual General Meeting, held today at the Sports Ministry Auditorium, saw a decisive victory for the faction led by Bimal Wijayasinghe. He was elected president for the 2025–2027 period, securing 61 votes, while former president Sunil Gunawardene received 38.

In another key contest, Madhawa Bandara Senarath was elected secretary with a commanding 64–35 win over Dammika Senanayaka. The race for assistant secretary was closely fought, with Alloy Nishantha Wickramasingha prevailing with 51 votes against Sameera Lakruwan Perera, who received 40—the highest tally among Gunawardene’s supporters.
