Sri Lanka’s young athletes delivered a commendable performance at the Asian Youth Games 2025, bringing home a total of six medals in athletics and showcasing the island nation’s growing potential in track and field events.
The standout performance came from Lahiru Achintha, who clinched gold in the Boys’ 1500m with a time of 3:57.42, demonstrating tactical brilliance and endurance in a tightly contested race.
The Boys Medley Relay Team added to the medal tally with a silver, clocking 1:52.82 in a thrilling final that saw them edge past regional powerhouses.
Sri Lanka also secured four bronze medals across a range of disciplines:
- Shanuka Costa in the 400m with a time of 47.72 seconds
- Chathura Dulanjana in Javelin Throw, reaching 62.51m
- Sandeepa Gimhari in the Girls’ 1500m, finishing in 4:52.32
- Dilini Rajapaksa in Triple Jump, leaping 12.31m
Beyond the podium finishes, several athletes delivered promising performances that hint at future success. Notably, Kisal Oshada qualified for the 110m hurdles final with a time of 14.01 seconds in the heats—faster than the eventual silver medal time—but was unfortunately disqualified in the final.
