The Sri Lanka Electronic and Mechanical Engineering Regiment (SLEME) secured the overall championship for the 11th consecutive year as the 60th Army Athletics Championship 2025 concluded at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama.
SLEME dominated the three-day meet, collecting 272 points, while the Artillery Regiment finished a distant second with 198 points. Service Corps (SLASC) claimed third place (164).
A total of one Sri Lanka national record and 11 new meet records were set during the championship, showcasing the depth of talent across the forces.
On the final day, Nadeesha Ramanayaka matched her seasonal best of 52.86 seconds to win the women’s 400m, setting a new meet record and continuing her strong form from the National Championships earlier this year.
Sprinter Chamod Yodasinghe added another 100m title to his name, setting a new meet record of 10.34 seconds in the semifinals before winning the final in 10.40 seconds.
Safiya Yamic completed a sprint double, winning the 100m in 11.88 seconds, adding to her 200m gold from day two.
In the hurdles events, Lakshika Sugandhi clocked an impressive 13.89 seconds to win the women’s 100m hurdles, while Roshan Dammika Ranathunga took gold in the men’s 110m hurdles with 13.98 seconds.
Olympian Aruna Darshana completed a dominant 200m–400m double, winning the 400m final in 45.79 seconds with a commanding lead of over 10 meters. Pabasara Niku followed in second place with 47.13 seconds. However, Darshana’s time fell short of the World Athletics Championship direct qualification standard of 44.85 seconds.
Darshana later anchored the Artillery Regiment to victory in the 4x400m relay, earning another gold amid loud cheers. However, by then, SLEME had already sealed the championship.
In the Women’s Championship, the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) clinched the overall title with 257 points. The Women’s Service Corps (SLASC) secured second place with 212 points, while the General Service Corps (SLAGSC) finished third, earning 208 points.
